"To read is the effervescence of champagne.  To write is to plant, pick, sort, and harvest the grapes.  I spend interim hours plumping my beret and cursing the computer."

"Savannah, O say can you see?

Paula Deen's boys and me?

If you do,

Choose one or two,

And then we’ll all have Good Ol’ Boys’ Beef Stew!"

Poetry Awards

Magnolia Moon, Texas Sage received a top-three finalist award at North Texas Book Festival, 2009.  I’ve won two awards for poetry recently.   One from the Plano Library Association for “Authority” which is dedicated to Gwendolyn Brooks.  That was in April, ‘08 for National Poetry Month.  They published it in their awards booklet, Celebrate Poetry.

The next poem won an Honorable Mention from online Artella Words and Art in their “Poetic Idol” contest.

For all artists and writers, www.artellawordsandart.com is an outstanding place to get published; send them your work!

Here is the poem:  (Also published in MAGNOLIA MOON, TEXAS SAGE.)

Mother’s Bed and Mine

Her bed made quick, army straight,

Wind-dried sheets crisp and smooth.

Palms slid tight and firm

Under pink chenille pillow berm.

Even the desert is envious.

My bed unmade…month-old sheets

Crooked and catapulted to floor like wrinkled

Elephant skins before and after sleep.

Why should I make my bed?

I’ve done some of my best work there!
